Des Moines (of the Monks) is the capital and most populous city in Iowa, with a 2010 US Census estimated 203,433 residents. Des Monies is the County seat of Polk County. Des Monies economy has been historically based on insurance and finance. Several major companies have their headquarters in Des Moines; inclusive of the Principal Financial Group, EMC Insurance Group, and Wells Fargo. Des Monies has a number of annual festivals that include the 80/35 Music Festival, the World Food Festival, and the Des Moines Art Festival. In 2010 Forbes named Des Moines one of the "Best places for business". Des Moines has been the home to the Iowa Caucuses since 1972.

Beaverdale is a neighborhood bounded on the north by Urbandale Avenue; on the west by 30th Street and on the southeast by Beaver Avenue. At the center of Beaverdale is Witmer Park. Having green space in the community gives Beaverdale residents an opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Beaverdale is primarily residential. There are rental properties available south of the Beaverdale community.

Chautauqua Park is located northeast of Center City. Chautauqua is bounded on the north by Hickman Road, on the east by Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, on the south by Forest Avenue, and on the west by 6th Avenue. Broadlands Medical Center is located in the north of the neighborhood. Also the north of Chautauqua Park is a consolidated green space composed of River Drive Park, McHenry Park, Riverview Park, and Crocker Woods Park. The abundant green space gives the residents of Chautauqua plentiful chances to enjoy outdoor activities. The housing stock in Chautauqua Park is predominantly residential with an area of apartment rental properties in the northwest section of the community.

Downtown Des Moines is the center of the business district of Des Moines. Downtown is where business and pleasure meets. Linden Heights is located south of Interstate 235. Linden Heights is a sprawling residential community southeast of downtown Des Moines. Linden Heights has Greenwood Park and a section of Ashworth Park within its borders. In the northern area of Linden Heights are a number of apartment communities to choose from. Both public and private schools service the Linden Heights community. Because of Linden Heights proximity to the Interstate, public transportation is accessible.

Woodland Heights is located east of downtown Des Moines. Woodland Heights is bounded on the north by interstate 235, on the west by Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, on the south by Grand Avenue, and on the east by 31st Street. Woodland Cemetery is very prominent in the Woodland Heights neighborhood. Terrance Hill Park is located immediately south of the community. Woodland Heights is primarily residential with some local stores in a small business district. There are a number of apartment communities on the southeast side of the neighborhood, with a few homes for rent in the northeast section.

Kirkwood Glen is a neighborhood located north of Interstate 235. Kirkwood Glen is bounded on the north by Hickman Road, on the west by Martin Luther King Jr Parkway, on the south by University Avenue and on the east by 30th Street. Drake University and Drake Stadium are well known residents of the Kirkwood glen community. There are a variety of restaurants, shops, stores, and bars located in close proximity to the University. A number of the rental properties in the area cater to the needs of the student population. There are also apartment communities on Hickman Road. Public transportation is easily accessed in the Kirkwood Glen community.
