The park is known for its flower gardens, which include 54 flower beds in an informal arrangement; with one garden being an exact replica of Martha Washington's garden at Mt. Vernon. The park includes tennis courts, a lawn bowling/croquet field, and two playgrounds. Washington Park's recreation center has an indoor pool, free weights, basketball courts and everything you need to be fit and active. Five Points is one of Denver's oldest historic neighborhoods adjacent to the downtown central business district. The neighborhood is located in the area of Northeast Denver where the original downtown street grid meets the neighborhood street grid of the first suburbs. the name Five Points stems from the Horse-drawn transit system that served this Denver neighborhood and the limited space to name the transit stops. Five Points is considered the "Harlem of the West" due to its long jazz history. It was the first predominantly African-American neighborhood in Denver. Welton Street is home to over fifty bars and clubs, where some of the greatest jazz musicians ever, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Count Bassie, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Billie Holiday, and many other legends performed. Built in 1921, the Legendary became the center of the Five Points community offering a premier hotel and jazz club still nationally known.
