Top Neighborhoods

Sobro is one of 8 neighborhoods that comprise downtown Nashville. Sobro occupies 8 city blocks and is considered one of the fastest changing neighborhoods in the area; and changes in a good way. There has been an influx of development, both residential and commercial, with more slated for the next few years. One of the projects currently underway is a new convention center. The centerpiece of Sobro is the Hall of Fame Park; and encircling the park, you will see some of Nashville's most impressive landmarks; for example stunning Schemerhorn Symphony Center, the Nashville Visitor's Center, the Sommet Center, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Neighborhood residents can take advantage of local eateries, shops and bars for entertainment.

The East Nashville neighborhood is located just across the river from Downtown. East Nashville provides an interesting mix of housing options from Victorian, to mid century modern, to quaint and cozy bungalows. East Nashville has recently been revitalized and with this renewal effort came a host of trendy boutiques, fancy clubs, and great restaurants to choose from. Shelby Park and Shelby Bottoms Greenway are two of the green spaces inside the boundaries of East Nashville. Shelby Bottoms is 810 acres of greenway offering tremendous outdoor opportunities to all the residents of East Nashville.

Green Hill is a community located south of Downtown Nashville. Green Hills is the home of the Mall at Green Hills, and is considered one of the more affluent communities in the state. Green Hills is considered more "auto-friendly" then "pedestrian friendly"; however, there are some public transportation options available. Green Hills is an older established neighborhood as evidenced by the fact that the Green Hill Market was the first supermarket in Nashville. Initially, most of the houses in Green Hills were one story ranch style homes, but over recent years, that has changed significantly. There are a great variety of housing options, representing every price range.

Hermitage is a neighborhood named in honor of the Hermitage home of 7th United States president Andrew Jackson. Even though in its recent history Hermitage was predominantly rural, today it is a thriving suburb with moderately priced residences and a network of retail stores and businesses. There are a number of apartments in the neighborhood as well. Within the borders of Hermitage are a number of tourist attractions including Opryland, Nashville Shores, the Buchanan Log House, and Percy Priest Lake. Hermitage is served by both public and private schools.

Spring Hill is a neighborhood situated in both Maury and Williamson counties. History reflects that the 1864 civil War Battle at Spring Hill was fought on the grounds that the neighborhood now occupies. It is home to several historic homes including a 19th century Greek Revival Antebellum, Rippavilla Plantation. Spring Hill is a family centered neighborhood and has a host of public and private schools families can choose from. Supporting its focus on family, Spring Hill has a community arts center that hosts various community events and offers a number of classes in the visual and performing arts.

Madison, located in the northeast section of Nashville, is a neighborhood that interestingly enough is the home of Elvis Presley's first fan club. Also, a portion of the roadway the Trail of Tears (the route taken for Andrew Jackson's forced removal of Cherokee Indians from North Carolina) runs through the Madison community. Over half of the Madison neighborhood is residential, with a quaint business district to meet the needs of the residents. Madison has an ethnically diverse population and the shops, restaurants, stores and night spots in the area reflect that.
