Top Neighborhoods

The Hill is a neighborhood in the southeastern portion of the city that is bounded by the Route 34/Oak Street Connector and Long Island Sound at the south. The Hill is home to Yale School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital. The Trowbridge Square section and the City Point section of the neighborhood are listed as historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places. The residential areas of the Hill are mostly working-class and minority neighborhoods. The housing stock in the Hill neighborhood consists of single family homes, multi unit residence, and apartment complexes. Wooster Square is a neighborhood east of downtown. The name of the neighborhood refers to a park square that rests at its center. The square is a part of the Wooster Square Historic District. The 40 acre district is bounded by St. John and Wooster Street. The housing stock in Wooster Square ranges from Victorian Mansions to single family homes. There are also apartments, converted lofts, and condominiums in the area. Wooster Square has a thriving art scene and today, is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in New Haven to live in.

Beaver Hills is 97 acres with a great portion of the neighborhood listed in the historic registry. The city was best known for its "10th century garages." The neighborhood still retains a number of its historic elements. The Hillsí includes brick gateway piers at its major intersections. There are public and private schools in the area and public transportation is accessible.
