Top Neighborhoods

East Side is a conglomeration of neighborhoods separated from East Providence by the Sekonk River. The East Sides houses most of Brown University's facilities and the Rhode Island School of Design. The East Side neighborhood has within its borders numerous independent shops, restaurants, and cafes adjoining Brown University to South Walter Street. The Jewelry District is a neighborhood located just south of Downtown Providence. As its name suggests, the neighborhood was once home to a large number of jewelry manufacturing companies beginning in the 19th century. Silver Lake is a neighborhood on the western edge of Providence, known for its Italian roots. Previously a predominantly agricultural community, Silver Lake has undergone rapid urbanization. Today, Silver Lake is a stable, densely settled urban neighborhood. About one in six housing units in Silver Lake is a single family unit, and most other structures house two to four families. There are four relatively small parks within the boundaries of Silver Lake. Neutaconkanut Park occupies most of Silver Lake between Plainfield Street and bordering Johnsons Street. Neutaconkanut is a 73-acre park with a recreation center, public pool, baseball fields, basketball courts, as well as forest and walking trails.

Fox Point is a residential neighborhood that remains home to a large portion of Providence's Portuguese population. Fox Point is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Providence.
