Top Neighborhoods

Washington Park is Denver's most desirable neighborhood and borders its namesake of Washington Park. The popular park's bike, walking and running trails make it a family favorite, especially in the summer. Gaylord St. brings in a crowd to the shops and restaurants lining the neighborhood thoroughfares. Recently, Washington Park has become a very popular urban neighborhood because of its central location, its closeness to the park, and its access to several commercial business enclaves. The park is known for its flower gardens, which include 54 flower beds in an informal arrangement; with one garden being an exact replica of Martha Washington's garden at Mt. Vernon. The park includes tennis courts, a lawn bowling/croquet field, and two playgrounds. Washington Park's recreation center has an indoor pool, free weights, basketball courts and everything you need to be fit and active. Smith Lake features prominently in the park and provides a host of water related activities.

Cherry Creek has always had a golden past, as a gold strike at Cherry Creek and the South Platte River led to the founding of Denver as a city. And the neighborhoods luxury continues to live on today with the extravagant Cherry Creek Mall and upscale restaurants at Cherry Creek North. More pedestrian enjoyment can be found on the bike trails and running paths along Cherry Creek's banks.The neighborhood is generally located in the south-central area of the City of Denver and is a mixture of beautifully tree lined residential streets and dense urban development. Cherry Creek Shopping Center anchors the neighborhood. Additionally, the Cherry Creek North shopping and dining district is a 16 city-block area with more than 320 upscale galleries, boutiques, restaurants and salons/spas and Fillmore Plaza. Fillmore Plaza is home to numerous community events including Films on Fillmore (in summer), the Cherry Creek North Ice Rink (in winter) and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

City Park, located in east-central Denver is 330 acres of beautiful green space. The park contains the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the infamous Denver Zoo, Duck and Ferrill Lakes, and the boathouse. City Park is also the name of the neighborhood that contains the park, with the park making up the majority of the neighborhood. City Park is the largest and most notable park in Denver and boasts an 18-hole golf course and three man-made lakes. The neighborhood attracts both tourists and locals alike to the restaurants bordering Colfax Ave. as well as the zoo and museum. Colfax in the City Park neighborhood in particular, has become a popular area with many hip restaurants, stores, and other businesses, including the newest location of the Tattered Cover bookstore and Twist & Shout record store. The neighborhood has also seen new residential and commercial developments. The park holds a free summer concert series and a recently built interactive fountain attracts many people to cool off in the water.

Governor's Park straddles the area between Capitol Hill and Washington Park. Sixth Ave. offers an international selection of restaurants from Little India to Benny's Mexican restaurant. The neighborhood is named after the Governor's Mansion, and contains a mix of apartment homes and single-family living. The park has a diverse population, great shops, trendy stores, and a host of amenities for its residents. Governor's Park offers a slightly more affordable alternative to Washington Park. Governor's Park has several local schools near the neighborhood, although Denver Public Schools allows students to pick the schools they want to attend.

Five Points is one of Denver's oldest historic neighborhoods adjacent to the downtown central business district. The neighborhood is located in the area of Northeast Denver where the original downtown street grid meets the neighborhood street grid of the first suburbs. the name Five Points stems from the Horse-drawn transit system that served this Denver neighborhood and the limited space to name the transit stops. Five Points is considered the "Harlem of the West" due to its long jazz history. It was the first predominantly African-American neighborhood in Denver. Welton Street is home to over fifty bars and clubs, where some of the greatest jazz musicians ever, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Count Bassie, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Billie Holiday, and many other legends performed. Built in 1921, the Legendary became the center of the Five Points community offering a premier hotel and jazz club still nationally known.

Downtown Denver is the main financial, commercial, and entertainment district in Denver. There is more than 23 million sq ft of office space in downtown Denver, with 130,000 workers occupying that space. Some of the more popular features of downtown include the16th Street pedestrian mall, built in 1982; Larimer Square, the re-emerging Theatre District near Curtis and 14th, and Civic Center Park. Surrounding neighborhoods include Capitol Hill, Uptown, Highland to the west, Five Points to the north, and the Golden Triangle to the south. Denver has made a strong effort to centralize its commercial and entertainment interests in the Downtown area. Currently, it is home to both the Pepsi Center and Coors Field and the Pepsi Center. LoDo and the 16th Street mall are home to hundreds of restaurants, shops, cafes and bars, attracting many residents from the metro area and supporting the 10,000 plus residents living in the central business district.
